Chlo-ish

Jun 02

This summer I want to go camping. And when I go camping I want to sleep in a slice of pizza and rest my head on a piece of broccoli.

That Fence on Valencia at 19th

Monica Schaefer is always well dressed. Ask her where she found her oversized black jacket reminiscent of Comme des Garcons ($5), her blue stripped sundress ($3), or Navajo print boots ($7) and the answer is always the same. She bought them off a fence.

Cesar Arroyo is cleaning out the basement for his wife’s friend by selling her unwanted goods right outside his sister’s house on 19th St. “I used to sell right on Valencia and [the police] would make me leave.” He continues to sell every Saturday because it’s a good way to pass the time and meet nice people.

To continue this fence fashion adventure, read my article on Scoutmob.

DECADES: DESIGN HEAVY: SAM CULKINS OF CULK INK. SAN FRANCISCO -

decadesmagazine:

Self-made man Samuel Culkins resides in the Avenues of fog beach town San Francisco where out of his 23rd and Cabrillo garage the Bay Area via Rhode Island designer wields his craft. Bent on 80’s surf and skate imagery, Culk’s boyish tendencies lend themselves to compelling combinations of vintage playboy mag imagery and Dionysian ideals of California mythology.

Read Sky Madden’s interview with artist Sam Culkin on the Decades blog. Tomorrow night Decades is hosting a show  with Positive Destruction, so be on the lookout for Sam’s screenprinted fabric renditions of our show’s poster. They look like this:

They are hanging from trees and posted to store fronts around the Mission. Feel free to take one if you see one.

The Kinkade Taco

Earlier this month I mourned the loss of Thomas Kinkade with a screen-printed (chocolate) Kinkade Taco. His glowing paintings of gnome villages, thunder storms, rainbows and overly-attentive deer will be missed.

MESABA

Freshmen year at USF I took this fantastic math art class with Professor Pete Wells. This is what I turned in for my final:

Fractal chest & Möbius strip arms.

Mary-Kate & Ashley

I am currently working on a memoir about the time I cruised the Baltic sea with the Olsen twins. Reflecting on my Olsen obsession, I’ve become nostalgic for the forgotten but amazing Olsen twin products from the early aughts.

I used to subscribe to their glossy magazine, which came out in 2001. Sadly there were only around three issues.
