1. While I’m on the subject of K-Pop I wanted to share some of my favorite K-Pop jams. It was my second day in Korea when I heard eight very important words: “Bubble bubble bubble pop, bubble bubble pop pop.”  Best. Song. Ever. I’ve been obsessed ever since and my interest in K-Pop has only increased.

The first time I heard this Hyuna song was at the Boryeong Mud Festival, which was a conglomeration of foreigners being drunk at the beach. I was less than amused with the event and the entertainment at Mud Fest was in general pretty awful. A generic rock band from the U.S. was part of the lineup and I was not impressed. But then, everything changed. A group of five Korean dancers made their way to the stage and thrust their pelvis to Hyuna’s insanely catchy song. I was transfixed by their moves, the music, the K-Pop magic spell.

The song followed me throughout my vacation. On the streets of Hongdae, inside the GS 25, at the cold noodle restaurant, et cetera. Other K-Pop songs caught my fancy as well, such as “Bad Girl, Good Girl” and “Hot Summer.”

When I returned from my trip, I introduced the beauty of K-Pop to my roommates. We Bubble Popped it before bed and sang “You don’t know me, you don’t know me, so shut up boy, shut up boy” over breakfast. Or maybe it was just me singing. In any case, it is clear that the obsession is contagious and there is no denying that this music is where it’s at.
