Passover Update
The Chozen ice cream arrived today. Matzoh crunch was a total let down. It was basically just your standard vanilla with some chocolate bits in it. I couldn’t find any matzoh in this ice cream. There were three other flavors to sample - all for various holidays. Continuing with the Passover theme there was Coconut Macaroon. It was meh. The Chocolate Gelt had a smooth consistency and was a slightly above average chocolate ice cream. The clear winner was Apples & Honey which had a very distinct flavor reminiscent of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. An enjoyable ice cream even when it’s not Rosh Hashanah.
But back to Passover. Journalist Cambrey Thomas brought my attention to the following: the gefilte fish cupcake! Recipe created by The Cupcake Project.

As you can see, it’s a delightful glob of gefilte fish in cupcake form topped with horseradish whipped cream.
And this year at Crumb’s Bake Shop they have special flavors like Elijah’s Delight, Raspberry Red Sea, and Holy Moses. None of these cupcakes are actually kosher for Passover.

Also not kosher for Passover is the special passover meatball, arriving next week at The Meatball Shop. I spoke with owners Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow today and they said they would be having a matzoh brie ball of sorts. It’s a mixture of chicken liver, matzoh crumbs, and ketchup served with a creamy sauce.
And with that, I wish you a lovely seder.
